| Here is the first issue of Israel, May 16, 1948. You will note that the stamps do not have the name Israel printed on them; this is because Israel had yet to be named. The Hebrew letters used spell out "Doar Ivri," which translates to "Hebrew Post." This is how collectors of Israeli stamps refer to this issue. |
