Bidding Rules

Bids will be accepted in advance by email or in writing for those unable to attend in person at the address seen below. Include full name, address, phone number, email address, society affiliation if any (APS, ATA, etc.), lot number(s) and maximum bid for each lot. Placing such a bid is legally binding and constitutes agreement to the terms and conditions below.

Bids under 25% of the estimated price will not be honored. The auctioneer will hammer all lots at one increment above the next highest bid based on his/her calling. Any ties will be broken by the earliest received bid. The auctioneer's ruling is final in all matters.

Lots will be combined for winning bidders, who will pay a 10% premium above the hammered price for shipping and handling, with a $5 minimum. Lots ship at the bidder's risk. US mailings will be sent by first class with delivery confirmation. Shipments may be insured, registered, or sent in a different way for an additional fee at the bidder's option and expense.

Winning bidders will be notified of lots and their total due within 1 week of the auction. Payment is accepted by checks or money orders drawn in U.S. funds. Shipments of lots will take place once such payments are received and clear the bank, typically in 10 working days from receipt.

This accumulation is remarkable in the high proportion of non-philatelic covers.
Some markings from small Alaskan communities are very rare commercially used.

    Transport Lot 4 - Eight Covers with great contents. Estimate $22. Sold $10

  • Five of the letters are to, from, and about Bernard Bailey of Hamburg, NY, while he was in
       military service 1943-46. Very interesting accounts of military life, plus cheer-up messages from
       the folks at home (“Keep out from under the birds and keep your trousers on.”) One letter speaks
       of Italian POWs who have sworn allegiance to the U.S. and are about to fight for our side
       (“...about all the English they know is ‘[f-expletive deleted] the Nazis.’”) And he teasingly tells his
       wife when he’s on his way home that ‘I’ll eat Limburger cheese and drink beer” if she keeps on
       calling him a cat. Also a long chatty letter from a worker at a base in Oklahoma to an officer
       formerly scheduled there, written in January 1946 as the military was winding up most
       operations. Fairly ordinary covers with 6c and 8c transports, but the letters are both historically
       interesting and delightful.

       the back, along with Betty’s address and a GB “Halley’s Comet” commemorative, and remailed
       it 7 March (?) 1986, having written “From” over her address on what was originally the front
       of the envelope.
