Ryukyu Islands- Page 19

The yen symbol and dollar sign are superimposed on this definitive issue of September 16, 1958, as currency changed over from the B-yen of the U.S. military administration to U.S. currency on that date.

The stamps were printed locally by the Asahido Printing company in Naha and are without gum. There are many varieties of shades, paper, and perforation on these stamps which were in use for many years. Most exist imperforate between horizontally and vertically. The 25 cent and 50 cent stamps were issued with gum in 1961.
