| Issued February 19, 1951, this appropriately green stamp shows an Okinawan pine tree and commemorates Arbor Week, Feb 18-24. It was the first of a series of stamps depicting honoring reforestation throughout the Ryukyus. Forestry and soil management became big business for the islands. The characters SAION are there as the organization introduced contour plowing to Okinawa. |
